The Marangu Route is a classic path to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. It’s popular for its gradual slope, hut accommodations instead of tents, and is ideal for climbers who prefer a less rugged experience. The 7-day version includes an extra acclimatization day at Horombo Hut, significantly increasing your chances of reaching the summit.
Start the trek through the rainforest with lush vegetation and wildlife.
Distance: 8 km | Duration: 4–5 hours | Habitat: Rainforest
Continue through moorland terrain with scenic views of the saddle between Kibo and Mawenzi peaks.
Distance: 12 km | Duration: 5–6 hours | Habitat: Moorland
Optional hike to Zebra Rocks or towards Mawenzi Hut to aid acclimatization.
Duration: 3–4 hours hiking | Elevation gain: ~300m
Trek across the alpine desert to reach the base camp. Early dinner and rest before summit night.
Distance: 10 km | Duration: 5–6 hours | Habitat: Alpine Desert
Midnight start to reach Gilman’s Point, then Uhuru Peak – the highest point in Africa. Descend to Horombo Hut.
Distance: 20 km | Duration: 12–14 hours | Habitat: Arctic to Moorland
Final descent through the rainforest. Collect summit certificates and drive back to your hotel.
