7 Days Mount Kilimanjaro Climb – Lemosho Route

Scenic, less crowded, and with a high success rate – perfect for those who want a beautiful and  rewarding route.

The Lemosho Route is one of the most picturesque trails on Mount Kilimanjaro, starting from the western side and crossing lush rainforest, moorland, alpine desert, and eventually the arctic summit zone. It joins the Machame route at Shira Plateau and offers good acclimatization.

Day 1: Lemosho Gate (2,100m) – Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,750m)

Begin the climb through lush rainforest. Keep an eye out for monkeys and exotic birds.

Distance: 6 km | Duration: 3–4 hours | Habitat: Rainforest

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa – Shira 1 Camp (3,505m)

Trek into the heather zone and enjoy views across the Shira Plateau.

Distance: 8 km | Duration: 5–6 hours | Habitat: Moorland

Day 3: Shira 1 – Shira 2 Camp (3,850m)
  • Hike across moorland, crossing several streams, before reaching Shira Plateau.

    Distance: 8 km | Time: 5–6 hrs | Habitat: Moorland

Day 4: Shira 2 – Barranco Camp (3,976m) via Lava Tower (4,630m)

Climb to Lava Tower for acclimatization, then descend to Barranco Camp.

Distance: 10 km | Duration: 6–7 hours | Habitat: Alpine desert

Day 5: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp (3,995m)

Climb the famous Barranco Wall, then descend into Karanga Valley.

Distance: 5 km | Duration: 4–5 hours

Day 6: Karanga – Barafu Camp (4,673m)

Hike to base camp and prepare for the summit push.

Distance: 4 km | Duration: 3–4 hours

Day 7: Barafu – Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Mweka Camp (3,100m)

Start at midnight for the summit. Reach Uhuru Peak and descend to Mweka Camp.

Distance: 17 km | Duration: 12–14 hours

Optional Day 8 (Highly Recommended):

Add a day for better acclimatization by staying an extra night at Karanga before moving to

Barafu. This improves summit success and reduces fatigue.
