6 Days Mount Kilimanjaro Climb – Rongai Route

The only route that approaches Kilimanjaro from the north, near the Kenyan border – remote  and scenic.

Rongai Route is less crowded, drier, and offers a unique wilderness experience. It is a great choice for those looking for a quieter trail with gradual ascent and excellent chances of wildlife spotting.

Day 1: Rongai Gate (1,950m) – Simba Camp (2,620m)

Drive to the northern side of Kilimanjaro and begin the trek through pine forests to Simba Camp.

Distance: 8 km | Duration: 3–4 hours | Habitat: Rainforest

Day 2: Simba Camp – Second Cave Camp (3,450m)

Climb steadily through moorland with scenic views of Kibo and the eastern ice fields.

Distance: 9 km | Duration: 5–6 hours | Habitat: Moorland

Day 3: Second Cave Camp – Kikelewa Camp (3,600m)

Continue ascending with gradual elevation gain and reach Kikelewa Camp at the base of Mawenzi.

Distance: 9 km | Duration: 3–4 hours

Day 4: Kikelewa Camp – Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4,330m)

Climb steeply toward Mawenzi Tarn, nestled beneath the towering Mawenzi Peak.

Distance: 6 km | Duration: 4–5 hours

Day 5: Mawenzi Tarn – Kibo Hut (4,700m)

Traverse the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo to reach base camp for the summit attempt.

Distance: 8 km | Duration: 5–6 hours

Day 6: Kibo Hut – Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Horombo Hut (3,720m) – Marangu Gate

Begin your midnight summit push to Uhuru Peak, then descend to Horombo and finally exit through Marangu Gate.

Distance: 21 km | Duration: 12–14 hours
